Blank Canvas Collective — Coaching, Creating, Community

Duets Are Blind, directed and produced by Ash Marie Alina, flipped the traditional duet format on its head: performers didn’t know who they would be paired with until they walked onstage.

The Concept

“Duets Are Blind” was born from the idea that collaboration is at its best when it’s spontaneous, risky, and a little unpredictable. In a business where actors spend so much time preparing, this format invited them to let go, trust their partner, and lean on pure artistry in the moment. The audience got to witness sparks fly as voices and personalities collided live, without rehearsal or expectation.

We also had the honor of giving over half the cast their 54 Below Debuts!

How The Show Went Down

Each pair brought something different — powerhouse ballads, hilarious comedy numbers, intimate storytelling moments. Some duos had sung together before, while others were meeting for the very first time on stage. That mix created an atmosphere of genuine discovery and joy, for both performers and audience.

Why This Matters to BCC

At Blank Canvas Collective, one of our pillars is Creating, so giving actors opportunities to experiment, collaborate, and take risks in a supportive environment matters to us. Producing Duets Are Blind also reminded us of how much audiences crave fresh formats, and how thrilling it can be to give performers freedom beyond the traditional audition room.

This show was more than just a cabaret; it was a celebration of community, trust, and the reminder that when artists come together without fear, magic happens.

What’s Next?

We’re already working up Duets Are Bind Season 2… but we may have a few more performance opportunities before then.
