Blank Canvas Collective — Coaching, Creating, Community

“I don’t want to be put in a box.”

I hear this from actors all the time, and I get it. But knowing your type isn’t about limitation. It’s about clarity. The more
specific you get about what YOU do, the more opportunities open up.

Your type is what casting sees when you walk in the room.

It’s your energy, age range, voice, physicality, and essence — and when you can name it, you start booking more roles.

Here’s a quick way to find your “type” :

  1. Ask people you trust.
What roles, adjectives, colors and time periods do they associate with you?
  2. Look at your headshots.
What characters would you use them for? Do they align with the characters you want to play?
  3. Write out your dream roles.
What shows, films, or characters feel like you?

Your type isn’t a trap. It’s a tool.
Once you know it, you can start marketing yourself in a way that makes sense to casting.
